On the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to the late Congress leader on Thursday. The Prime Minister, who shared the message on social media, recalled the memory of Rajiv Gandhi and paid tribute to his contribution to the country.
Prime Minister Modi wrote a message of remembrance on social media platform X. PM Modi wrote, “Heartfelt tributes to the former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his death anniversary.”
Senior Congress figures like Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also paid their respects at Vir Bhumi in New Delhi. Congress leaders recalled Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to modernizing India with the reforms in technology, education, Panchayati Raj and empowerment of youth.
They pointed out that his efforts contributed to the developments of the late 20th century in the country, and still impact today’s India.
Rajiv Gandhi was India’s youngest Prime Minister in 1984, at age 40, and remained in office till 1989. He died in an assassination attempt that occurred on 21st May 1991 during a camp rally for the elections in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
