Congress leader K Muraleedharan on Friday said that the central leadership party would take the final decision on the next Chief Minister of Kerala; after holding consultations with senior state leaders. He stated that further details will be announced on Sunday.
Speaking to ANI news, after a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) at the party headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Muraleedharan said that the party’s central observers had already departed for New Delhi and would soon submit their report to the party high leadership. He further said that the final decision would rest entirely with the leadership after reviewing feedback from state leaders and legislators.
Muraleedharan assured that internal escalations within the party would be resolved once the leadership announced its choice. He said that although the discussions and contrary views were natural during the selection process, the party members would ultimately unite behind the chosen candidate. He also dismissed the speculation of any rebellion within the Congress, asserting that there would be no revolt against the decision of party.
The statement was made after the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a great victory in the Kerala Assembly elections; winning 102 seats, including 63 secured by the Congress. The party is now engaged in consultations that who will lead the new government.
For appointing the leader of the Congress Legislature Party, all Congress MLAs, have adopted a resolution for empowering the party high command; said Mukul Wasnik. He added that a detailed report on the deliberations would be submitted to the leadership for its consideration.
On the opposition side, TP Ramakrishnan stated that the LDF has yet to finalize their choice for nominee for the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly.
