Two key suspects in the killing of political activist and Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Osman Hadi have been detained in India’s West Bengal state, according to multiple sources. The detainees, identified as Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain, were reportedly picked up during an early-morning operation on March 8 in the Bangaon border area.
Sources stated that the operation was executed based on defense intelligence. Faisal, identified as the suspected shooter, and his accomplice Alamgir had been residing in various locations after their entry into India subsequent to the homicide. The two individuals entered India via the Meghalaya border shortly after the incident and traversed multiple locations before reaching Bangaon, adjacent to the Bangladesh border, where they were purportedly attempting to re-enter Bangladesh. Osman Hadi was fatally shot in Dhaka on 12 December of the previous year. Subsequent to the incident, authorities initiated an investigation and identified Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain as primary suspects. Authorities in West Bengal have filed a case concerning their detention. The two suspects were presented in court on 08 March and have been remanded in police custody.
Additional inquiry into the issue is in progress, the sources indicated.
