Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership for not being in the country when the nation is in a state of uncertainty due to recent developments in the elections.
In a press briefing, Raut said that the country is going into a delicate political and economic scenario as the Prime Minister is on an official visit overseas. He said PM Modi seemed to be “enjoying in the Netherlands” and the agenda on domestic issues needed to be addressed at home.
Raut also addressed issues of India’s foreign policy, focusing on topics such as international conflicts and diplomacy. He had said that external pressure from global powers on India’s oil purchases from Russia in the Russia Ukraine war had impacted their policy making, casting doubts on its independence.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief also lashed out at the PM’s overseas visits, such as receiving international honours and awards. He asked the government’s priorities, saying that national issues should be given priority over going overseas and ceremonies.
In addition, Raut aimed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a violence that was caused by traffic chaos in Pune due to VIP movement. He cited a recent example of big traffic snarls because of the Deputy CM’s convoy, which was allegedly reported by a social worker. Raut says people remain inconvenienced due to over-excessive security measures for political leaders.
He also lashed out at Union home minister Amit Shah, who he claimed is responsible for blocking major roads in Delhi for his convoy’s movement to and from the official residence, which is an inconvenience for the public.
The comments follow the surge in political discourse on economic woes, high crude oil prices due to the clashes in West Asia, inflation and the depreciating rupee.
Raut also corroborated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks on alleged corporate “favoritism” as there were still unanswered questions about industrialist Gautam Adani and related controversies.
The BJP has yet to react to Raut’s latest comment.
