Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie is on a state visit to India from February 5-10, 2026, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is his first foreign trip since taking office in October 2025 and marks the golden jubilee (50 years) of India-Seychelles relations. The visit started in Chennai (Feb 5-6), followed by Mumbai (Feb 7), where he interacted with stakeholders in the areas of governance, industry, coastal management, health, and other related sectors.

He reached New Delhi on February 8, where he received a ceremonial welcome. On February 9, he called on External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who mentioned support for India’s “#VisionMAHASAGAR” (emphasizing maritime security, economic prosperity, blue economy, ports, and renewables in the Indian Ocean region). The key takeaways included meetings with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, paying floral tributes at Rajghat to Mahatma Gandhi, and delegation-level talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. These included discussions on bilateral cooperation, maritime security, trade (including local currencies and fintech), climate change, development partnerships, and regional stability.

A joint press conference was also held, where leaders reiterated shared history, trust, and future vision in sea, land, and air domains. Seychelles was welcomed as a full member of the Colombo Security Conclave.
